2004 Rooftop Tourny: The Supreme Court Rules In Favor of WIN.

Kurt Jerdon says “ it starts with the Supreme Courts defense”  Jian Ouyang says “it’s the hustle of the Court” Michael Gutman says “it’s the Supreme Courts ability to execute” Laurie Ziffrin says “it’s the bench’s depth and interchangeable parts” I say it’s our ability to have 5 jurors who can put the ball in the basket. What ever it is, the Supreme Court continues to win.

After decisively knocking off Crouching Tiger with Edmund Lin actually coming out of Hiding, the Supreme Court improved its record to 4 and O to remain atop the Rooftop standings. The highest court in the land now points to the 3 and 1 Affirmative Action as the only matter standing between the Court and an undefeated season. The two teams will clash Tuesday the 12th in a game that amounts to an additional playoff contest. The loser will need to turn right around and play Wednesday in the first round of the playoffs. The winner gets a day off and will face the number 4 seed in the Founders Cup tournament on Thursday. But we’ll deal with that later.

Back to the game played last evening. The loss marked the end for Crouching Tiger as the Court struck down Tigers bid to play another game by eliminating Tiger from Playoff contention.

Finishing with a 1 and 4 record Ona Ahumada’s team came out with lots of fight and it appeared they had a good case, as they kept up with the Court point for point during the first quarter of the 1st game. But upon rebuttal, Laurie Ziffrin brought in the subs and things took a decided turn in the favor of Supreme Court. Once again, even though Doug Ott snared 20 rebounds and Ed Lin showed up to finally make a contribution, Ona and the combination of Joe Curtis and Ben Sandholm played and argued their case well, in the end it was just another team that couldn’t match up with the one man gang known as Michael Gutman. Gutman rebuffed every pleading and advancement the Tigers took.

Arguing on the side of the “majority” he found accurate open shooters like Kurt Jerdon and Jian Ouyang to balance out his own scoring spree. Then, he counseled Lance Burton and Laurie Ziffrin to put the defensive clamps on Ott and quick shooting Ahumada to render a series decision 2 games to none. The court adjourned to ponder its next case.

Tonight’s game with The Nerds facing Rejection Sustained features Randy Wells in his first game since moving into that period known as the golden years. They say you get better with age. Also, Matt Griffith is less than a half point off on his per game scoring average from moving into first place as the per game scoring leader. Should Griffith score 12 or more points he could become the league’s first Triple Crown winner. First in Scoring, total points, and rebounds. My bet is that the Nerds will focus on keeping Griffith from getting the scores. We’ll see what happens. 5 pm start time.
