Last nights game was an aggressive physical battle that left few of the combatants unscarred. The game was held up numerous times to administer aid to wounded warriors. The matchups were about as even as you could have asked for. This 3 game series had all the makings of a playoff matchup. Mounting tension, unlikely heroes, back and forth see saw scores and a bloody will to win exerted by both teams. The spectators got everything they could have asked for in two playoff bound teams prepping for a chance at the Founders Cup trophy. Affirmative Action and Kill Ball Vol.1 validated everyone’s unspoken thoughts that either of these two teams could easily win the whole darn thing.
This morning as a result of the intensity of last nights game there are calls for referees to be instituted into the remaining contest. And Commissioner Burton has acted immediately to install officiating for the 3 final season games and for the playoffs and championships.
As for who won last night’s battle, it went to Affirmative Action who improved their record to 3 & 1 with only 1 game remaining against the undefeated Supreme Court to finish the season. The loss dropped Kill Ball into the 3rd spot of the standings, but assured Kill Ball of a spot in the playoffs. Frank Perkins, David Merritt, Richard Fianza and Jason Hudgins went to the mat to win the first game in the 3 game set, but after that, Affirmative Action, buoyed by a surprisingly outstanding performance from Jeff “Renewal King” Sacramento made it clear they wanted this series bad. So they banged and clawed and scratched and kicked and pushed and shoved and slapped and pawed and leaped and flew and dug and cut and whipped and sprang and mashed and drugged Kill Ball all over the court. The result was two straight 10 -7 and 10-5 victories to pretty much guarantee a big pre-playoff show down next Tuesday with Supreme Court. Once again, Peter Reis led the way with 24 rebounds and 9 points. Followed by a marvelously gritty performance turned in by Alex Karzag who scored 11 points and grabbed 19 rebounds. Tough defense was the hallmark of this game and both teams gave it all they had.
We are likely to see a repeat of this match up some where in next week’s playoffs. Round two – WOW! I can’t wait.
